Alexander Godunov was a Russian American film actor and ballet dancer. He was a member of the Bolshoi Ballet and became the main dancer in the troupe. He was known for his role in , , and .

Alexander Borisovich Godunov was born on 28th November 1949, in Sakhalin, Sakhalinskaya Oblast, RSFSR, USSR. He was the elder child of Boris Godunov and Lidia Nicholaevna Studentova. He has a younger brother. 

He belongs to White ethnicity and his birth sign of Sagittarius. 

Alexander began ballet at the age of nine in 1958. His mother remarked that putting him in ballet to prevent him from becoming a hooligan. In 1971, he joined the Bolshoi Ballet and become a main dancer in the troupe.

Furthermore, he won a gold medal at the Moscow International Ballet Competition. He later joined the American Ballet Theatre formed by his classmate Mikhail Baryshnikov and worked as a principal dancer until 1982.

Godunov established his own dance group and traveled the world and performed as a guest artist with a number of prominent ballet troupes. Then he began to work as an actor in Hollywood.

Russian actor started his career in 1970 with Russian film and played two more movies in 1975 and in 1978. Having worked in just 3 movies, he well-established himself as an actor in Russia.

After coming back to America, he worked as a dancer in a ballet troupe. Later, he resumed his acting career, this time in the American film industry. His debut film was in 1985; in the film, he worked with Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis.

In his second movie,  in 1986, he shared a screen with Tom Hanks and Shelly Long. He worked with Bruce Willis in action thriller film in 1988, where he portrayed the lead character Karl Vreski.

His last feature film which was released in 1995.

Alexander Godunov was married to Soviet ballet dancer Lyudmila Losifovna Vlasova in 1971. He and his wife performed ballet together. As a performer, the couple had multiple trips to America.

However, following Vlasova's defection from the US by USSR, Alexander had conflicts with her choice to live in the US as she felt she was too Russian to live in the US.

The conflicts in the couple's choice to settle down in different parts of the world apparently created conflicts in their relationship. They divorced in 1982. 

While living in the U.S, Alexander Godunov began a romantic relationship with English actress Jacqueline Bisset in 1981. He had an affair with her while he was still in a marital relationship with his wife, Lyudmila Vlasova.

They had 7 years of relationship and later in 1988, the couple went on their separate ways.

Alexander Godunov died on 18th May 1995 due to complications from hepatitis caused by chronic alcoholism. He was found dead in his home at West Hollywood. His ashes were released into the Pacific and no relative attended his final rituals.
